Note: Figures are yearly average values, based on tree sequestration potential and yearly per capita CO2 emissions of the average German citizen. Based on recent science, trees may sequester up to 60kgs CO2 per year in their highest productivity phase (which can last anywhere from 10-50+ years). We assume an average of 22 kg of CO2 per year.
Planting trees is a great first step! But consumption needs to be changed as well.
A person in Germany emits approx. 9,600 kg CO2 per year * via consumption, nutrition, travel and energy consumption.
Via photosynthesis and its growth a tree can approx. convert 22kg CO2 * to wood and oxygen per year.
If everyone just plants approx. 440 trees their total annual CO2 emissions will be neutralized by trees. Year over year!
